Hidden along the coast of Gozo are treasures: sea glass that has retained its rough edges, its sparkle, and its history. Not a smooth, milky find—but evidence of resilience and transformation.

Spring 2025, a windy beach on Gozo. I was looking for sea glass—and found rough, angular pieces that literally vibrated in my hand. Weeks later, I discovered the theme of the next Malta Biennale: “Clean. Clear. Cut.” One glance at the glass I’d collected was enough, and the vision for three works immediately came into focus.

Depth does not lie in what has been smoothed over, but in the fractures that tell a story.
